Magical Mystery Tour is a record by the English rock band The Beatles, first released as an 11-track LP in the US on 27 November 1967 and on 8 December 1967 in the UK as a 6-song double-extended play disk (EP). Both the US and UK records feature the 6-song soundtrack to a one-hour television film of the same name originally aired in 1967. The US release expanded the record to a full album, with the soundtrack on the A-side, and the two sides of the band's three 1967 singles on the album's B-side (other than "I Am The Walrus" which was already on the A-side). The Beatles were an English rock band formed in Liverpool in 1960, who became one of the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed acts in the history of popular music.[1] During their years of international stardom, the group consisted of John Lennon (rhythm guitar, vocals), Paul McCartney (bass guitar, vocals), George Harrison (lead guitar, vocals) and Ringo Starr (drums, vocals). Rooted in skiffle and 1950s rock and roll, the group later worked in many genres ranging from folk rock to psychedelic pop, often incorporating classical and other elements in innovative ways. The nature of their enormous popularity, which first emerged as the "Beatlemania" fad, transformed as their songwriting grew in sophistication. The group came to be perceived as the embodiment of progressive ideals, seeing their influence extend into the social and cultural revolutions of the 1960s. (read more…)
